The productivity and innovation in the PROTON Lab, located in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been showing. The lab, led by Associate Professor Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou, recently have had four research projects selected for presentation at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE ICC 2024), one of the two main flagship conferences of the IEEE Communications Society.

“These selected research works represent a kaleidoscope of cutting-edge themes,” Tsiropoulou said. “Each research project not only tackles pressing challenges but also illuminates pathways that could redefine the trajectory of wireless communication systems, smart grid systems, and positioning, navigation, and timing solutions for public safety and military applications.”

The projects selected are “GENESIS: Green Energy Efficiency Optimization in Integrated Sensing and Communication Networks,” “SynergyWave: Bandwidth Splitting and Power Control in Integrated Access and Backhaul Networks,” “Dead-on-Target: An Accurate Alternative Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Solution” and “SMARTFORM: Self-Managed Coalition Formation for Energy Trading in Smart Grid Systems.”

"This extraordinary accomplishment not only underscores the unwavering dedication of the lab to research excellence but also signifies a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the domains of wireless communications and artificial intelligence," Tsiropoulou said. "Kudos to the PROTON Lab for this remarkable achievement, heralding a new era of knowledge dissemination and innovation on a global scale!"

PROTON, an acronym for Performance and Resource Optimization in Networks, embodies a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the realm of network optimization and beyond, Tsiropoulou said.

She attributes this achievement to the tireless efforts of her research team — Sadman Siraj, Aisha B. Rahman, Nicholas Kemp, Joshua Atencio, Arianna Santamaria, Yie Sheng Chen and Issiac Baca — whose “collective brilliance has propelled the lab to the forefront of innovation.”

"As PROTON Lab continues to blaze trails in the pursuit of innovation, this achievement stands as a testament to the caliber and depth of talent within our team. We take immense pride in fostering such exceptional individuals," she said.

The IEEE International Conference on Communications will take place from June 9-13 in Denver, Colo.
